COVID19

From the Minister’s Desk                                                                                                   29 April 2020

To the Saints at the North Las Vegas Congregation,

Grace and peace be unto you. A few house keeping announcements for us all; please stay prayed up, don’t be fearful, don’t suffer needlessly if we can help one another. We can’t help fix what we don’t know is broken. Cultivate the seeds of the word that you’ve been taught, do your part and leave the rest to God our Father and be at peace. We don’t have to know what’s going to happen on tomorrow because we know and belong to Him who sends tomorrows.

I remind you that “you are fearfully and wonderfully made.” You should always give praise, thanks, and glory to God. I pray that it will not confuse or upset you to know that “we are gods.” We were “made in God’s image and likeness” and it is the breath of God that gives His created gods life and intelligence to be able to reason and rationalize. We are not accidents. The Psalmist said that God said, “Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the Most High. But you shall die like men and fall like one of the princes.” Psa.82:6-7 Know your value, know what you are, who you are and who’s you are. This is not flattery. This is the Bible truth!

Learn to be more Christ like. The scriptures teach that security of the soul, true inner peace and blessed assurance can all be found in Christ. “Nothing can separate us from the love of God,” but we can separate ourselves from God if we deceive ourselves or allow ourselves to be deceived. I know this teaching hurt a lot of folk, but it is the truth of God’s word, believed or not. We believe it and want to be saved, so we must teach it to others also. We adapt to the changes in our society and cling to what has not changed, God’s word.

Have you read; The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to the fruit of his doings.” Jer.17:9-10 I can make myself feel good by saying ‘I’m not that bad or I’m not a bad as others’ not believing that God knows my heart, my motives and my every thought. He will reward me according to my doings. Isn’t that a good enough reason to do right?

“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1Jo.1:8-9 I must not lie to you or myself, trying to look good or impress others. I must constantly confess my sins to the Lord, though He knows, it does not free me from taking responsibility for my sins, confessing and repenting. Some still seek the approval of men rather than God.

Let no man deceive you with vain words; for because of these things comes the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.” Eph.5:6 I must not let man tell me how good I am, that God don’t expect me to do right all the time or there are things I do or don’t do that God will overlook. “There was a time God did overlook things, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.” Don’t be flattered or deceived into being lost. Develop a zeal for God according to knowledge received from God’s Word. Just do as He has commanded, and He will save you!

Greetings beloved,

We, the leadership of the North Las Vegas Church of Christ are praying for you and working to feed and care for you as best we can during this time of crisis. We know our limitations and we pray that you do too. We ask that you please let us know if you need anything that we are not providing so we can facilitate it for you. Please pray for us and our world. Not just America.

The leadership consists of your Minister, your Teachers and your Brothers and Sisters who are engaged in all aspects of the work of the ministry here. Building maintenance, Security, Ushers, ministry leaders and the transportation ministry are all a part of what makes this congregation what it is and what it is doing for you, in Christ for Christ’s sake.

Jesus asked Peter, “do you love me? three times and three times Jesus responded, “feed my sheep.” Your leadership loves you and we are trying to feed you as the Lord commands. We feed you what you can’t get from the world, God’s word. Facebook, twitter and all other forms of social media allows any and every opinion to be expressed in relating to God and His word. Only the word itself is pure and right. “Not of any man’s interpretation, but as God moved holy men to speak.” This was done under the guidance and control of the Holy Spirit and not degreed men of man’s intellect. No child of God needs to have a degree from man to understand and obey God. Paul expressed that there was ‘simplicity in Christ’ and “not confusion.”

Just remember, where you must go depending on the information you are seeking. If it’s health, see a Doctor. If it is legal, see a lawyer. If it is job related, see your employer. If it is soul related, seek God. In every one of the above areas the information varies depending on the situation. But “with God there is no difference with male nor female, Jew nor Gentile, but all are one in Christ.” All must obey the same thing, abide in the same rule and the same judgment. That can only happen in Christ. A whole new life with divine guidance and perspectives.

We pray that you understand and appreciate Heb.13:17… That’s all of us. We do this willingly and joyfully for your sake, ours and the Lord’s. Now is a perfect time to put what you’ve been taught into practice as it relates to last month’s topic, “Surviving Pharaoh’s Prison.” You may feel like you are in prison due to the freedoms to come and go has been restricted. But there are no bars holding you in. You are doing it because you’ve been taught to work within the system meaning obey the rules of the system. You can go out if you want to, but you sacrifice your wants for the necessary good of others. God is pleased. You trust that God is in control and will fix this in His own time. You are calling, texting and emailing one another. You are giving encouragement to one another. God is pleased.

You are a joy to us! We can see that our labor is not in vain. We miss you dearly. Be strong in the Lord, “be of good cheer and let not your heart be trouble, neither let it be afraid.” Our God is real! “Pray without ceasing, the effectual, fervent prayers of a righteous man avails much.”

As we are now under a “Stay at Home Order” mandated by the Governor, the North Las Vegas Church of Christ has decided to continue providing worship service via media and phones.

It is our desire to continue to “worship God in Spirit and in truth” according to the scriptures. You can pick up your communion cups or request they be delivered to you on Saturday so that you can participate in the worship service with us online and complete all of the elements of worship. The only personnel allowed in the facility are those designated as “essential personnel.” Otherwise the building will be closed to the public.

Through the week only the staff and building maintenance people will be allowed in the building. Tuesday and Wednesday nights will be the Teachers of these classes only. On Sunday, the Minister, Teachers, men performing the worship services and Song Leader.

It is our prayer that you understand that we are concerned for your safety as well as ours. We ask that you please take this virus seriously as it is killing people daily, even in our city. To go elsewhere and expose yourself is dangerous not only to us, but your family as well. Obey the guidelines that are given for the safety of everyone.

Please consider not making two or three different contributions online. Use the notes block under the donate tab to specify where each portion is to go. Combine them into one, because each transaction has a fee and part of your contribution will go to fees. If you insist on making separate contributions, please add the fees into your contribution.

Prayer requests can be made via Zoom, in the Chat room during bible class and during the worship service. Those using the phone to hear the service can go to the website, click contact and enter your prayer request.

In due time, with “Christians praying, seeking God’s face, turning from wicked ways, God will hear our prayers, forgive our sins and heal our land.” Believe God!

Coronavirus Procedure Update:

We as Leaders at the North Las Church of Christ have been closely watching the changes that have quickly escalated and affected us and our community because of the Coronavirus also known as COVID-19. With the new details surrounding the virus we have decided to cancel all of our services and activities that are held at the building in an effort to help stop the spread of it. This does not mean that we are going to stop worshipping God, which I will outline below but we do need to act responsibly and not put ourselves or you and your families in danger. We are not acting out of fear because we do trust in God and he did not give us a spirit of fear, however we are using common sense and are acting accordingly.

As we all know technology can be a beautiful thing and we have found a way that we will be able to use it so that we can still worship God and have our bible classes together in the privacy of our homes during these difficult times. It doesn’t matter if you have a smartphone or a flip phone we will all be able to participate together.

Many of you may be familiar with Zoom and Facebook Live Steaming, which is what we will be using. It will allow all of us to either be on the phone together or online together at the same time so that we can still worship God together. You can find detailed information about how and when to join services on the "Worship & Classes Streaming" page, in COVID19 section of the website.

I know that this is something new for all of us so we will have a practice run this Saturday, March 28 at 12:00 PM noon, so that we can all be prepared for Sunday. Please use one of the above methods to gain access to the meeting. If you are having problems please email, text or call Bro Johnson at (702) 600-0056, Dwightjohnsonlive@yahoo.com.

On Saturdays, from 10:00 AM -1:00 PM, we will have a “drive up, grab and go” where we will pass out communion cups for you and your family. You will not have to get out of your car… just drive through the parking lot.

We know that we are also commanded to give and that the work of the Lord must go on, so we ask that you also leave your contribution when you pick up your communion. You are also able to give online, for more information, go to the "Giving & Communion Page", in the COVID19 section of the website.

We will follow this procedure until further notice. Although we find ourselves in extraordinary circumstances, find comfort in knowing that God is still on the thrown and he is in control. During this time our hearts and our prayers go out to everyone that has been impacted by COVID-19.

Stay Safe & Healthy. May God continue to Bless you!

Another element of worship is Giving.  Therefore, we are providing various ways for you to give. As we move further into this unprecedented crisis in our time, let’s be sure to keep “God who is our refuge and strength” first and foremost in our hearts. We do not have to be afraid. Our God is alive and in full control. Trust Him.

We will keep you informed of any changes that may impact our worship efforts in the future. Now is the perfect and needed time to activate our “Brother’s Keeper” efforts. Brother L B Jones and crew has worked tirelessly to get our membership engaged in this effort. Now more than ever before, “Brother’s Keeper” is needed. Do your part. Follow instructions and seek God’s peace and comfort. Until He comes for us, live in and for Him.
